Auction History
The Phoenix Chapter of AAZK has been hosting an annual auction since the year 2000 with it becoming bigger and better every year. It has proved to be the chapter’s biggest fundraiser with thousands of dollars donated to worthy conservation organizations. Auction funds have also allowed the chapter to provide many enrichment items to animals at the zoo, send several members to national conferences, and participate in various other fundraising opportunities.
Items for Auction
Many unique items are available at the auction including artwork by Phoenix Zoo animals as well as their paw prints and photos. Past artwork has included paintings done by Duchess, a Bornean Orangutan and Indu, an Asian Elephant. Many different behind-the-scenes tours and other special programs are also available for auction. Along with the many animal themed items, there are always plenty of other auction items such as restaurant and store gift cards, sporting tickets, and other event admission passes.
AAZK Auction
Each year the Auction is held in the Stonehouse Pavilion at the Phoenix Zoo, which is a very nice indoor venue with a great view. We provide hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, wine specials, and a cash bar. There is a silent and live auction, as well as a 50/50 raffle where the winner wins 50% of the money raised from selling the raffle tickets. Admission to the auction is free and open to everyone.
Conservation
The Phoenix Chapter of AAZK provides a portion of funds from every auction to conservation. Each year the chapter members nominate conservation organizations they feel the most passionate about, and then a vote is held to choose the recipient of that years funds.
